I wonder if I'm the only one

I wonder if I'm the only one who could care less about the Academy Awards? I haven't really watched them much for years with the exception of the years Lord of the Rings was nominated. I haven't seen any of the movies and I don't want to see many of them. For example:

Performance by an actor in a leading role
George Clooney in "Michael Clayton" - I don't like George Clooney - never have, never will.
Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will Be Blood" I prefer to remember him in Last of the Mohicans
Johnny Depp in "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" if it was Jack Sparrow in the first POTC - maybe but as a murdering barber - nope
Tommy Lee Jones in "In the Valley of Elah" just a simple no
Viggo Mortensen in "Eastern Promises" if I cared - this would be my pick
Haven't seen any of those movies

Performance by an actor in a supporting role
Casey Affleck in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" nope
Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men" nope
Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Charlie Wilson's War" nope
Hal Holbrook in "Into the Wild" nope
Tom Wilkinson in "Michael Clayton" nope
Could care less who wins - haven't seen any of them

Performance by an actress in a leading role
Cate Blanchett in "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" Don't care - although Katie likes it
Julie Christie in "Away from Her" don't care
Marion Cotillard in "La Vie en Rose" don't care
Laura Linney in "The Savages" don't care
Ellen Page in "Juno" don't care - even if it is mostly Canadian
Haven't seen any of them

Performance by an actress in a supporting role
Cate Blanchett in "I'm Not There" Haven't seen it
Ruby Dee in "American Gangster" Haven't seen it
Saoirse Ronan in "Atonement" Haven't seen it
Amy Ryan in "Gone Baby Gone" Haven't seen it
Tilda Swinton in "Michael Clayton" Haven't seen it

Bunch of boring ones - blah blah blah

Achievement in directing
"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" (Miramax/Pathé Renn), Julian Schnabel
"Juno" (A Mandate Pictures/Mr. Mudd Production), Jason Reitman
"Michael Clayton" (Warner Bros.), Tony Gilroy
"No Country for Old Men" (Miramax and Paramount Vantage), Joel Coen and Ethan Coen
"There Will Be Blood" (Paramount Vantage and Miramax), Paul Thomas Anderson
Haven't seen any of them - don't think I will watch any of them.

Best motion picture of the year
"Atonement" (Focus Features) A Working Title Production: Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Paul Webster, Producers
"Juno" (A Mandate Pictures/Mr. Mudd Production) A Mandate Pictures/Mr. Mudd Production: Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick and Russell Smith, Producers
"Michael Clayton" (Warner Bros.) A Clayton Productions, LLC Production: Sydney Pollack, Jennifer Fox and Kerry Orent, Producers
"No Country for Old Men" (Miramax and Paramount Vantage) A Scott Rudin/Mike Zoss Production: Scott Rudin, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, Producers
"There Will Be Blood" (Paramount Vantage and Miramax) A JoAnne Sellar/Ghoulardi Film Company Production: JoAnne Sellar, Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Lupi, Producers
Haven't seen any of them - don't want to see any of them except for maybe Atonement - and only on DVD at home where I can control my reactions.

I think I'll be spending my evening reading a good book

I haven't watched in years, and I can't say that bothers me. I did see some of the movies up for awards, but can't drum up enough interest to see if they win.

I used to watch them religiously. Back in college I was the editor of the A&E section of our newspaper, so I reviewed lots of movies and even wrote my own column predicting the Oscars. Buuuut, that was a long time ago. This year, I think I may have seen ONE of the current movies. lol. Still, it's on the TV playing in the background. old habits die hard.

You don't like George?? But...but...why not? ;-)

The Oscars just seem to get more and more pompous, don't they? I kinda enjoy the preshow, though - or I did before Seacrest invaded. He has to be the most awkward red carpet interviewer EVAR. Yikes.

I'm with you on the George thing. I didn't really even like him when he played on the Facts of Life.lol... I'm sure he's a nice guy in real life, but he comes off like an ass on TV.

I'm normally an Oscar junkie - but this year? Meh. Although I think I have all of these on my Blockbuster queue except for Atonement (which makes me go a big rubbery one).

I've only seen a couple of these movies. Amy Ryan was great in Gone, Baby Gone. Johnny Depp was good in Sweeney Todd, but for my money Helena Bonham Carter stole that movie and she got ROBBED by not being nominated. Eastern Promises had very good acting (Viggo included) but I thought the script was a little light in the pants. Not a lot of meat on the bone.

I don't really care who wins - but will admit to rooting for Hal Holbrook and Ruby Dee just because they're both class acts.

I'm totally not interested in the Oscars and probably never will. Half of the movies or often 3/4 of them, I've never heard of. All I like to do is watch the dresses LOL :) Yes, I'm shallow.

I don't so much love the Oscars, as I LOVE the Red Carpet! Usually I throw a Red Carpet party (which we call the Bring the Bitchy to the Red Carpet), I invite my girlfriends and drink wine, eat dinner and trash what the actresses have on. So, I did enjoy the Red Carpet, and somehow ended up staying up to watch the ceremony. I'm a celebrity news junkie, so I love this sort of stuff. But I'd only seen Atonement, which I loved, so I wasn't really rooting for anyone in the show, just love watching all the stars.

And I'm going to forget you said that about George. ;o)

I was glad that they aired and that the strike is over. But the Oscars were dreadfully dull.Except for the times when camera was on Johnny Depp. LOL! I say enough of Jon Stewert already. That was two years in a row. They need someone new. I just find it lame when he laughs through his own jokes. Hopefully next year will be better.

:)

You are SO not the only one. Books for the win! I'd much rather read a book than watch all that BS ;-)

Nope, you're not the only one. I like the award for the Best Song, and the In Memoriam section, but otherwise, I don't pay attention.

I thought this year was cool because a lot of the movies were base off of books, but most years I have got to say they have been boring.
