I remember watching this and being so mesmerized, I barely breathed for the entire time. In fact I think I almost stood up and applauded around the 3:40 minute mark - Whatch what he does!
And now thanks to YouTube - I can relive that moment again!
And then after that - there was this for fun

good ol' philippe candeloro. I remember him from the previous olympics when he was a surprise medalist. that rocky routine he did in the showcase was too funny. What a showman. lol.
you know who I miss? Elvis!
Oh God, Philippe Candeloro!!! I remember when I still lived in Brazil and it got those competitions on Cable and I was mesmerised by him. Thank you for that!
MWAH!!
I've just given you a blog award thingymebob. I did think about just putting the link in, but you might have wondered what exactly was wrong with me!!! LOL!!!
Kristie! How fun was THAT! Thanks for sharing!
And please tell me he's straight! My fantasies won't be the same if he's not - not that I won't have them, but I'll have to replace one of the players if he is.
::blush::
Thanks so much for this Kristie! It's been so long since I've watched skating, but this is from when I used to love it! The drama is fab.
Sula: For the most part I really liked Elvis - and miss him still too - but the romantic in me just adored and always will adore that routine by Phillipe.
Ana: Wasn't he great!! Unfortunately living in North America, we didn't see as much of him as if we'd lived in Europe. But he was mesmirizing - in whatever routine he did.
Gwen: LOL - your fantasies can remain. According to Wikepedia he's married to a former dancer and the father of 3. He now does sports reporting. So when he did that D'Artagnan routine - he was straight and single.
Kwana: I don't watch skating nearly as much as I used to either these days. I still watch the World Champions though. Oddly enough I think part of the reason is I can't imagine anything being as grand as that D'Artagnan routine. Technically there were better skaters but artistically as far as my money went - it was PERFECT. My husband thought I was rather nuts at the time - he just didn't see the 'romance' of it. But when he (Phillipe - not Ron *g*) did that 'sword fighting' line - I was in total and complete AWE! I think my mouth was even open. It appealed to me on so many levels! And the fact that he was very hawt was certainly one of those levels *g*.
Marg: Well thank you!!! That's so nice of you *g*
Okay, our brains must have been connected. I just posted a You Tube of Michelle Qwan yesterday too.lol.
I was so into Phillipe. He made ice skating sexy for men. What was the other guys name, Elvis Stoyco or something like that. Phillippe always came in like 3rd, and Elvis either 2nd or first depending on if a Russian got first.
LOL - it was Elvis Stoyko. I know this because he came from Canada. We had us some fine male figure skaters for a while there, Brian Orser, Kurt Browning and then Elvis. Female skaters - not so good.
But in the '88 Olympics I was all about Phillipe and was thinking Elvis who?
I miss Philippe Candeloro!!! I loved it when he went professional and did his fun routines. He always took his his shirt off and always did his signature Candeloro spin. He just disappeared one year ~ but he was so fun to watch.
