Because everyone else has been doing it

And I asked (bugged - haven't figured out the strikethough yet) Cindy about it, here is my 2006 breakdown of reads.

At first I was kind of puzzled. According to my spreadsheet, I only read 38 but I was sure I had read more than that - despite the year. I was going through it again tonight and realized I hadn't marked down all the books I had read. I read them, graded them, but forgot to put in the year. When you use the filtering feature in Excel, this is VERY IMPORTANT. Once I fixed that up, it brought the total number of books I read in 2006 to 61.
I grade mine on a scale of 1 to 5 but you never see a one because I don't keep ones. Or twos. I only keep 3 and higher. So here is my reading year breakdown - keeping in mind I'm easily pleased

5 7 books rated a 5
4.5 17 books rated a 4.5
4 9 books rated a 4
3.5 7 books rated a 3.5
3 4 books rated a 3
DNF 3 books were DNF

Now I just used the trusty calculator to double check and that only adds up to 46 books. After scratching my head for a minute, the light bulb went on! The rest were books I read that were published BEFORE 2006. And some were also rereads.

My 5 rated books
Crazy Wild - Tara Janzen (Romantic Suspense)
Her Scandalous Marriage - Leslie LaFoy (Historical)
A Gentleman By Any Other Name - Kasey Michaels (Historical)
Delicious - Susan Mallery (Contemporary)
The Panther And The Pyramid - Bonnie Vanak (Historical)

I don't know how many books I've read. I only tend to review ones I liked a lot or hated [those are always fun to review, lol]

I should start keeping track! I feel so left behind. LOL.

That was very interesting.
I am kicking myself for not having a system in 2006 because I read at least 150 books. I have been on a bit of a spree :-)

You did good! AAR just put up their annual reader poll and they list all their DIK reviews for the year - I'm looking over the list and I have a few on the TBR pile and I might be able to squeeze them in before the deadline.

It's funny that when AAR starts it's poll I get a hankering to read more books so I can vote proper. Weird.

Cindy: I know what you mean. If I were to vote today - while I have most of the books in mind, I feel like I might not be completely fair in voting if I don't get a bunch more read. I ususally vote pretty early but I think I'll be later this year - just so I can get more read.

Kyahgirl: I first started keeping records so I could vote in the annual AAR poll and discovered I loved keeping records. The big thing I'm finding is to keep it updated. I can find out all kinds of reading patterns by keeping it in an excel spreadsheet.
Rosario is the Queen of excel and she has a sample spreadsheet you can download. Now she tracks a lot more than me - but it is a fun thing to do! And I'm finding the more books I read, the easier it is to loose track of the ones I've read/bought. It's not because I'm getting older - no it's not! Not at all the reason. Nope, it's not.

Mailyn: See what I said to Kyahgirl *g* Another good way to track books that you've read and grade them & stuff if you have it, is with LibraryThing. I think a lot of us have than now. There's all kinds of stuff you can enter in there. And I felt left behind when I first started too :)

Wow, I've read 17 of those books with almost the same grades. I liked StS a little more than you since it was a keeper for me. I only had 3 keepers total this year, alot less than last year. I still have a few more I want to finish before I enter the AAR poll so I think I'll be late this year too.
