Ect. Time

I'm doing big changes around the house and to be honest, while excited, I'm also a bit nervous. First off, I spent a bundle at IKEA a couple of weeks ago on new book shelves and new entertainment shelving. This is to match the coffee table and end tables I bought a while ago.

I have two large book cases in the living room which I plan on taking downstairs. The library is expanding into the next room and I need mores shelves!

I plan on taking before and after pics and posting them, but I think this will really perk up the living room as well as giving me more space for books. These new shelves hold a lot more books than the ones I have now. In addition, but I couldn't find a picture, I bought a shorter bookcase to go in the middle of the two big ones with the CD/DVD holders on either side. I also want to get LED lights to go in the shelves of the television unit. It's also going to call for rearranging of pictures. They should be coming tomorrow and hopefully be up and filled by next weekend.

Even as I type this, I have a guy cutting down and trimming tree limbs and really fixing up the yard. So the outside will look different.

But all of this is nothing compared to the Really Big Job starting January 4th. And that one is the kitchen. After years of drawing a blank as to what I wanted - but I just wanted different, I'm finally getting a picture in my mind. The kitchen will be so completely different from new floors to moved appliances, to knocking out walls, new cupboards, countertops to changed ceiling. This is something I've wanted for years, but we didn't get around to doing. I have a kitchen guy I really like. I think I blogged about him earlier - he's just a young guy but very enthusiastic about the job. He called me the other night all excited because he found some really great hardware at a Very Good Price - a third off the regular price. He should be coming by sometime this weekend to show me, along with some samples of counter tops.

All this means my kitchen will be out of commission for a month. We are putting the fridge, stove, dishwasher & microwave in the back bedrooms til they get it done. Then I have to decide if I have enough money left over to buy a new fridge/stove.

I'm not used to this much change!!! And the price is scaring the heck out of me. We are talking more than I paid for my car!! And that had me sweating for months and I had 5 years to pay it off. I was talking to Ryan the other night about how much it was costing and he didn't seem concerned. He's the accountant son who is sort of looking after the financial picture for me - along with my financial guy. I have guys now!! A kitchen guy, a financial guy, a tree trimming guy - and of course there is always Cable guy.

So - big changes going on. I'm scared, nervous, excited and cringing all at the same time!

Pictures to come as we go

'til later

***ETA***
They came!!! They came!!!! They just arrived! My bookshelves and entertainment shelving unit came! The only trouble is Ryan is out of town and Brent is here but as bad as I am with assembly. So for the moment, they are all lined up in the hall with barely enough room to get by.

I love Ikea! It is an adventure going there.
My Ikea fetish is almost as bad as my Gap and Borders one.
Good luck trying to put everything together though. It took me a week to put a table together from them!

Katie: Well, I'm bribing my boys with a case of beer to do it for me :). And yah - gotta love IKEA. I also got a lot of knick knacks to go along with all the new shelves I'll have!

I am torn between despair and thankfulness that the closest IKEA is 4 hours away. LOL

Embrace the redecorating! Your guys will help things stay on track. :o) I can't wait to see the pics.

Woot! Sounds like it will be awesome. We redid our kitchen awhile ago, took out everything down to the wall studs. Had a lot of dinners out and it was a real pain, but absolutely loved the results. You will be so happy you did this. And having an enthusiastic young kitchen guy around can't hurt. LOL

Just keep repeating to yourself that "change is good!" I would loooove a new kitchen. *sigh* But that won't be happening any time soon. I've never really shopped at Ikea, but I like the shelves and such that you bought!

My bookshelves are from Ikea too. :) Your TV/entertainment unit looks great.

I'm planning a complete overhaul of my kitchen next year and I'm already palpitating just thinking about it.

Good luck with the redecoration. I'm sure everything's going to turn out fine - after all, you've got "guys"! :D

Oh to have bookshelves! Actual bookshelves and no Rubbermaid totes! I'm pea green.

And think of the kitchen remodel as an investment. Updating your kitchen does wonders for your home's resale value. It will be a hassle, but you'll love it when it's finished!

That is an awesome book shelf. If I keep buying like I am I'm going to need another shelf soon. I have shelves for the books I've already read, shelves for the book to be read, what I'm reading now shelves. Then I have shelves for paperback and hardcover. If I ever move I'm in trouble.
