Late to the Tudor party

I was hoping to have something scintilating to post today but instead I got caught up last night in a television marathon of The Tudors.

Of course I've heard of this series and I even caught a bit of it once, but I never bothered to find out exactly when it was on. But I was channel surfing and saw they had three episodes back to back to back last night. I'm not sure where they started - whether it was at the beginning or not but it was early enough on to make sense of it. It wasn't until the third episode that he met the Bolyen sisters.

They showed it 'uncut' and that was rather eye opening. Quite the randy bunch they were!

Now that I've seen it and know when it's on, I think I might keep watching - at least for a while anyway. I love period dramas - no surprise there *g*. I'm sure I'm not the only romace reader to love this genre of movies, but I'm not so sure when the hero - isn't! I loved history in school and English history in particular, so I know Henry VIII - while not a bad king, was NOT a nice person. Jonathan Rhys Meyers sure does make a compelling Henry though doesn't he?

****ETA****

What I did get a kick out of while watching last night though, was the birth of Henry’s son whom he declared Henry Fitzmorris. Of course I thought immediately of Blood Ties, one of my favourite shows (before the #
%#$*^% cancelled it) the Vampire hero Henry Fitzmorris, the bastard son of Henry VIII.
Very Interesting I thought!!!

Oh Kristie -- welcome! I love, love, love the Tudors. It's so trashy and fun! I saw an interview with JRM not too long ago where the interviewer asked him about all the sex on the show. He was all, "Please, they had no radio, no television, what do you think they did all day to entertain themselves?!" LOL!

I love JRM, he's just the right blend of selfish child, hot lover and seriously megalomaniac adult.

It's amazing how even when I know what's going to happen I'm still totally addicted.

I would love to watch this show but sadly I dont get it. *pout*
This was my favorite time period in English history. My favorite rake...the Duke of Suffolk...what. a. tool. Mary Tudor...what a pip.

I wonder if this show will be out on DVD soon? Is this the first season or second?

I always wanted to watch this show, but I'm a horrible TV person. I always forget when something's on. And I have DVR, too. How lame is that? Maybe I'll try to get a hold of all the episodes so far from iTunes or Netflix and catch up.

I love that picture of JRM alone, sitting with his legs wide. Its one helluva invitation to kneel right there and ..... ;P

Bring on the ranchy sex!!
Heh heh.

Kim: Hi and welcome! I think the one I watched last night was Season I. And if I'm not mistaken I think Season I might be available on DVD because they are showing Season II - either they've started or will be soon. And while looking for pics this morning, I noticed that I could watch whole episodes online through CBC. I didn't have time to watch any this morning though.

Mary Kate: ROTFL - the did seem to be a randy bunch didn't they?
And I know exactly what you mean about how JRM plays Henry. I'm not sure how I feel about him. One moment you hate him for his childish ways - on one of last night's episodes he had quite the temper tantrum!! - or want to be an attractive young woman - he did do things with - shall we say - Gusto.
The one who really creeps me out is Sam Neil as Thomas Wolsey. What a schemer he is!!

Chris: well there was one scene last night where he was not sitting but standing and asked Mary Bolyen to show him something she learned in France - and she ah, er, um did!

Katie: LOL - If you like raunchy this is the show for you!

My mother introduced me to The Tudors. I walk in to the tv and right before my eyes Henry is getting busy with a maid!

This season is going to be intense! And Peter O'Toole plays the new Pope!

I'm watching the first season on DVD right now. JRM makes such a fantastic Henry in my opinion!

I've been meaning to look for the Tudors, but couldn't find it. Does this mean it only been showing 3 episodes so far?

I love the Tudors! I just bought my Dad season one on DVD for Easter. I found it at Borders on sale for 19.99 and couldn’t pass it up :o)

We canceled show time so I’ll just have to wait for season two to come out on DVD. That seems to be the only way for me to watch TV anymore :o)

Season 2 of The Tudors started March 30th. :)

Kristie - I love when JRM bellows, "But I'm the King of England!"

What a whiner.

Really? Its only the beginning of season two? Hmm... I might actually be able to catch up on this one.

Oooh! Must add to Netflix.

JRM. roawr!!! That man makes me think all kinds of dirty, naughty thoughts. I have loved him since the first time I saw Bend It Like Beckham. yummy! I watched August Rush because he was in it. (Nevermind that I was distracted every time Alex O'Laughlin was on screen.) Now I shall have to watch the Tudors because of him. Oh, JRM, I love you so!

Katie: ROTFL - that's a scene I simply can't imagine ever watching with my mother. She would have put a lock on the television to protect her young daughters eyes - even if we were in our 30's!!

Amy: Doesn't he JUST though? Can we say yummers!

Julia: Well - I live in Canada and one of the Canadian stations just picked it up so it's just starting at the beginning here. But I know you can get the first season on DVD.

Leeann: Again I'm laughing that you would get your dad this series. *laughing* (see) it's not the miniseries I saw many a year ago on the six wives of Henry VIII

MK - he sure does have a temper doesn't he? A little boy in one hawt young guy's body.

Chris: you could!! It's not too late.

Shannon: I loved him in Bend it like Beckham too and then lost track of him. It wasn't until recently that I realized it was the same guy.

I watched the first 3 episodes. :P

Ok - after reading the Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, I'm finding myself very judgemental of the Tudors. TOBG was a great read BUT the Tudors is fun to watch. LOL

I'm late to the Tudor party too. I don't have Showtime but the first season in on video now so I just started watching and really like it. I'll be continuing. It's big fun! Yummy!

I've been on hold for this at my library for awhile and hope it comes in soon!

There was another miniseries made a couple of years ago about Henry, in 2003 starring Ray Walstone and Helena Bonham Carter as Anne Boleyn. I just watched that one, and it was very enjoyable. Even my husband thought so. And it has Sean Bean in it!

KT Grant said...

If they could just get Sean Bean to guest star, this show would be perfect!

Kristie (J) said...

Katie: I agree! Sean Bean would be nice - very nice!
Rachel ROTFL - I first read that as Ray Walston and I immediately thought (and I'm dating myself here) My Favourite Martian??????? What the heck kind of Henry would My Favourite Martian make????????

Kwana: I can see that there will be hot times ahead for me on Sunday nights!!

Ames: When I was in high school I did a lot of reading up on Henry and his many wives - AND Mary AND Elizabeth. They were a scary lot to be on the wrong side of - that's for sure!!
