America's Book Quiz

Yahoo just posted an article on America's favorite reads.

Can anyone guess what is America's favorite book is to read? You may be surprised by the answer.

As for the second favorite for adults, it is the book that introduced me to the romance genre:
Gone With the Wind

Is it bad that I've never ever heard of Atlas Shrugged? SIGH.

I'm woefully poorly read.

FWIW, I'm not a big fan of Gone With The Wind. I thought it was pretty mediocre.

MK: My friend loves Atlas Shrugged by Ayn rand and is trying to get me to read it. It is over 1000 pages and one of the longest novels ever written!
And I thought Crime and Punishment was. LOL
Gone With the Wind is for an emotional read for me and in my top 5 of all time books.
But I have never read Lord of the Rings.

*gasp* you've never read LOTR??? I'd put it WAY ahead of GWTW on my fave list.

I'm not surprised by the results.

I do think people are full of crap about Ayn Rand. Seriously? Atlas Shrugged?

I read the Fellowship of the Ring (when the movies came out). Here's the thing about Tolkein for me. He's way too friggin' descriptive about every damn thing.

It's like: "There was a rock, under the moss, under a tree, in a really big forest, in the land of Blahdeeblah, on the planet Whatever." By then end of the description, I'm always like, what were we talking about again??

It was too much for me.

Reminds me of the time I read The Hunchback of Notre Dame after watching the movie.
Hugo went on for almost 200 pages about the church alone!
MK, I am going to steal the word-"Blahdeeblah". Gave me a good laugh :)

I have heard of Atlas Shrugged but ugh not my type of book to something...
Loved Gone with the Wind I use to devour it all the time. My mother bought three copies before she informed me I would have to buy the next!

Atlas Shrugged? Are you freaking kidding me? That ridiculous tripe masquerading as literature? That selfish garbage that privileged white males spew as gospel is "America's Book"?!?!

Oooh that makes me angry. And a little scared.

Thea: So I take it Atlas Shrugged in not all it is cracked up to be?
:)
I have read the Da Vinci code. Please, that book was okay but not the end all and be all everyone says it is.

And yes Kristie, I have neve read LOTR. I have scene all the movies though :)

The key to enjoying The Lord of the Rings books is skimming and major skipping. I've read them a few times now and I've yet to read one of the songs he seems so fond of. You just slim along until something interesting happens :) And I must say - it really helps having Viggo as a visual for Aragorn. He didn't come across as nearly as attractive in the books!!
