I don't carry a purse for the money. I could just take my debit card in a pocket as I don't carry a lot of cash on me.
I don't carry a purse to hold my drivers license. I have this nifty little folder. If I was driving somewhere I could put my debit card in it to.
I don't carry a purse to carry a comb. I don't have a comb in my purse. If my hair is flat. I use my hands to fluff it up - and then it promptly goes flat again.
I do carry pens in it. Aztec Lady knows about me and pens. But for that I could have one of those very small little purses that barely weigh a thing.
Nope -- my main reason for having a purse with me at all times is to carry books. Not one book and often not two books. I usually have 3 with me at all times.
So here is the challenge.
Go get your purse.
Open it.
Pull out the book(s).
What are they?
Now I know this is a bit more difficult for ereaders as they can carry A Lot of books in one small device, but if they want to accept the challenge - what book on their ereader are they reading.
Here are the books in my purse.
Now this is actually quite unusual for me!! I usually have one historical, one romantic suspense or contemporary and one category or paranormal book as I'm never sure what mood I will be in.
Now this isn't to say I'm actually reading any of these books - though chances are pretty good that I am. But it's a comfort thing.
So - who's up for the challenge? What book(s) do you have in your purse??

Ride The Fire, Pamela Clare
I don't ever use a purse, but sometimes If It Fits I carry one in my pocket!!!!!
Oooooh - good one!! I hope you let me know what you think of it!! And only one book? heh heh heh.
BookJunkee00: I often think of the freedom there would be in not carrying one - but then where would I keep books in case of emergency??? That's what keeps me from freedom *g*.
Can't carry a purse at work so I have a backpack instead :D. It has Indiscreet by Carolyn Jewel, Fallen by Claire Delacroix, The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley and Rhapsody by Elizabeth Haydon in it.
I would never buy a small handbag! At the moment I have Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger and A Guide to the Birds of East Africa by Nicholas Drayson both in hard cover.
No romance, no historical fiction. Very unusualy for me!
Until this afternoon I carried a copy of Benny & Shrimp in my handbag. Finished it and now have my Kindle with All the Right Angles by Stef Ann Holm (and 92 other books). :D
Great question!
great challenge! and i agree, the main thing i need my purse to be big enough for is a thick book, and sometimes room for a packed lunch to take to work.
today i only have room for one book, the 3rd in His Dark Materials: The Amber Spyglass it's to big to fit anything else (that's what she said)
When I go to buy a new purse I have one thought in mind how many books will fit. Right now I have Blood Magic by Jennifer Lyon, Street Magic by Caitlin Kitteredge, Must Love Hellhounds and my ereader just in case I fall out of my paranormal mood.
Three? Really? You carry three books with you all the time? I can't do that. Mostly because I don't want a purse that big, and also because I'm a read one book at a time kinda girl.
I'm currently hauling my Sony Reader around, and I've easily got 20 books on it at the moment. Right now I'm reading Highland Dragon by Kimberly Killion. After that, I'm not sure what I'll read. Probably one of the HH titles I have loaded. Maybe Alaskan Renegade by Kate Bridges....
The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Also, my ebook reader which holds LOTS of books and TWO usb keys full of ebooks. LOL So a lot can fit in my purses. :P
Excluding my ereader, I've got Burn by Linda Howard and Fear No Evil by Allison Brennan (my purse is vera big!)
Hi Kristie,
Right now I have Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts, Wild Blue Under by Judi Fennell and Captive of Sin by Anna Campbell.
I never buy a purse that doesn't hold a book--it's part of the must-have list. Right now I'm toting Lucky Streak by Carly Phillips in my purse, and in my school bag I have Bed of Roses, Walk on the Wild Side by Christine Warren, Naked in Death by J.D. Robb and Pack Challenge by Shelley Laurenston. I should probably unload, but I seldom know what I am going to read next.
Love this Kristie!!! When I started reading, I had to upgrade my purse to accommodate my books!
Soul Magic by Jennifer Lyon is in my purse right now! Which is also coming to bed with me!!!
I hope things have been well for you my friend!
I have both a Treo (phone/PDA) and an ipod touch. I have stopped loading books on the Treo as I now prefer my ipod for reading. But I am finishing up what's on the Treo. A few hours ago I finished Broken Hero by Anne Whitfield and I haven't decided what to read next. There are 12 books to choose from. On my ipod I just started Hoyt's To Desire a Devil. There are 25 additional books there, and several more waiting on Fictionwise for me to download. So about 30 unread?
I'm also a heavy library user, so my purse contains a dead tree book. Right now I'm reading Lord Braybrook's Penniless Bride by Elizabeth Rolls.
Yeah, I'm often midway through multiple books.
Hah! Today there's only one, Stephanie Laurens "Temptation and Surrender". The really sad thing is that I didn't get even 5 minutes to crack it open!
But, the evening isn't over yet.
There isn't any in there now but the last one I had in there but I grab one and take it with me to any doctors or dentist appointments usually.
Hoyt's To Desire a Devil, Dare's Goddess of the Hunt and Heath's Midnight Pleasures with a Scoundrel.
Right now I have Marianne Stillings "The Damsel in this dress" in my purse. I only carry one book at a time in my purse but I do keep a back up book in my desk at work incase I forget the current book I'm reading at home. It's usually a book I've started and haven't really enjoyed but haven't hated enough to give up on it.
HAA!! I hope my sisters are reading these since they are always making fun of me and my purses and the number of books I carry with me. It's good to know I AM NOT ALONE!!!!!
I currently only have one, Bound to Shadows by Keri Arthur - but my purse is huge. I could probably fill it with a dozen!! My kids are old enough to not carry a diaper bag anymore, but I after years of lugging one around, I stayed in the habit of a big purse. I probably have half a toy store shoved in there too.
Aw Kristie
This post reminds me of the day we met & we talked about buying purses that are book suitable LOL.
I have The Red Diary by Toni Blake (since One Reckless Summer, I've been collecting her back list). In my lunch bag, in case I finish the other one before I get home, is Outcast by Joan Johnston.
LOL! Purse? Not me. I carry around a tote bag.
Right now I am carrying two books, To Desire a Devil by Elizabeth Hoyt and The Wildest Heart by Rosemary Rogers. The Wildest Heart ought to count as three books because it is over 700 pages long.
Okay, I carry a huge tote, and I do have an eReader, but I'm a double carrier. I have two books and the reader, lol!
I'm carrying Demon Moon by Meljean Brook (my current read on print, Joe's Wife by Cheryl St. John (print) which I received yesterday and couldn't resist bringing with me so I can peruse (or maybe just gobble up), and on my reader I have Burning Up by Sarah Mayberry started and ready for those breaks. :)
In the small purse, which I carry when I'm doing errands, I have Rosemary and Rue by Seannan McGuire, an urban fantasy. In the big "mom" purse which mostly stays in the car until I need it, I carry my ereader. Right now, I'm reading Hemavore by Jordan Castillo Price a m/m paranormal.
I'll even go 1 farther: on my iPod (which goes everywhere with me) I've got The Wine of Angels by Phil Rickman, a mystery.
Writing this out makes me realize that I don't have a romance that I'm reading right now. I really must rectify that . . .
On my Kindle I just finished Knight of Desire by Margaret Mallory. My next Kindle read is His Dark Kiss by Eve Silver and in paperback is Laird of Desire by Paula Quinn.
On top of always having a book shoved into my purse I have at least one shoved into one of the various pockets in the car... you know just in case I get stranded somewhere or I am just not in the mood for any of the books I have in my purse, or my mother needs something to read.
The Jungle: The uncensored original version by Upton Sinclair (our Book Club selection for November!)
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
I've only got one book (my purse only fits one). It's a true-crime book called Language of Evil by Robert Beattie. It's been very interesting so far. (I actually knew the man who was convicted.)
One of the most enduring lessons my mother taught me was to always, always have a book with you.
My Sony Reader is with me everywhere I go, and the next book that I'll probably read on that one is Let it Ride by Jillian Burns. The book I'm reading right now though is Breakfast in Bed by Robin Kaye, which is in print format, so I'm hauling it around too.
Usually I just have 1 book in the purse, but today for some reason I have two:
Vengeance in Death by J.D. Robb, and Retrospective Assessment of Mental States in Litigation: Predicting the Past
That's awesome - I always have a book in my purse - just in case I'm stuck waiting somewhere. Right now I've got Megan Heart's Stranger in it. The only problem I come across is sometimes the edges get roughed up a bit and I like to keep them looking as new as possible.
I don't have a purse, just a backpack. Mainly because I am carrying around everything but the kitchen sink with me :) My book, which is currently sitting next to me, rather than being in my bag (I hope that counts), is Bloodhound (Tamora Pierce) [YA fantasy].
I have a saying: 'Have Book, Will Travel' to explain why I always have a book with me *grin*
I had carried trade size copy of Bled Dry by Erin McCarthy. I can fit at most 4 paperbacks in my purse. The most I carry though is 2 books because I like to read one book at a time. The extra book I carry is in case I finished my current reading and need another book to read before I could get home. :)
Oh - I love it! I have Nibble & Kuhn by David Schmahmann and Guernica by Dave Boling. Both in hardback - heavy.
None currently, because I just finished a book and need to pick a new one... but I definitely choose my purses by their ability to hold books! -- willaful
In my purse there is Queene Of Light by Jennifer Armintrout...i read it while waiting for class to begin or during lunch break.
You had to point it out for me to realize that i always have a book in my purse.
