I work out, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle

My goodness!!  I don't blog for a while and Blogger has totally changed it's look.

Anyway, back to where I was going.  Nath emailed me the other day to ask how I was doing and I realized it's time for an update since it's been a while since I posted.

It turns out that I'm not prediabetic, I'm not borderline diabetic.  I flat out have it.  I have to test my blood now (and oh how I hate that finger pricking)  but I choose to see it as a good thing.  I knew by the lifestyle or rather in a way lack of lifestyle, I was headed that way.  And as I said before, it was the boot in the butt I needed.  So - yes indeed I am still on the healthy life style track.  I'm working out at the gym six days a week now for at least an hour.  I do it on my way home from work as the gym is on the way.  In a way, that's the easy part.  I've attended a couple of seminars now on diabetes and it's really been impressed on me that I need to be a lot more strict with myself on eating.  That's the hard part.  I have about a half hour range of time that I have to eat in and there is where I'm finding it a bit harder.  On weekend and days off I tend to delay breakfast quite a bit and I can't do that anymore.

And dinner is even harder!  I stop at the gym which means I don't get home until sometime after 6.  Then I have to rest for a while because I'm tired from work and tired from working out and just need to totally zone out for a bit.  Then it's on to cooking dinner, then eating dinner which alas, is leaving little time for blogging.  And gosh darn it all, I miss is!

But - on the plus side, I'm feeling better than I have been for years.  It's kind of like I'm starting to emerge from a cocoon I've been in since Ron died.  I have a lot more energy, I'm in a generally much better mood, my blood sugar levels are very good and I have more endurance than in I can't remember!  I'm parking at the back of the parking lot at the gym to get that extra bit of walking and wonder of wonders I'm not winded when I get there!!  You have no idea how good that feels.

I'm still eating healthy although now it's a bit different.  With diabetes, it's all about the carbs and I have trouble getting all the carbs I need in, especially at dinner.  And I'm supposed to have snacks - between breakfast and lunch, then lunch and dinner and then the most important one - in the evening.  Unless it's chips or some equally VERY BAD junk food, I just don't want to eat after dinner and before bed.  I don't want to, I don't want to, I don't want to!!  But I must, I must, I must - see the struggle?

My blood sugar levels are very good and I only have to stick a pin in me once a day now so my fingers are most grateful.  And I have lost weight.  I still have so much farther to go and it's easy to get discouraged but I have to keep telling myself " this is not what it's about - and look how far you've come and just take it one day at a time" and all the other stuff that works most of the time but then the odd times I want to tell my inner voice to just fuck right off and eat that damn bag of chips.  But thankfully, I've ignored that particular voice in my head.

But, that's why the lack of regular posts.  I'm beat by the time I'm ready to blog and I still have to get my reading in.  And then of course there is The Voice, Dancing with the Stars, The Biggest Loser and best of all, Game of Thrones.

But hopefully as I go on I'll start bouncing back quicker and able to do more blogging in the very near future.

'til later

Just keep working at it!

I get how you mean, being tired and not wanting to make dinner - I've since tried making ahead. Like chopping all the vegetables at night and then they're right there to make into a salad or sautee.

Also, slow cooker meals saved my life.

Alas, for me I'm trying to cut out carbs - I love bread and pasta and potatoes. If I could live my entire life on buttered toast, I would.

I'm glad you're taking more care of your health, Kristie! So keep working at it! :) I'm going to take a page of your book and start watching out for mine too! :)

And I'm with AnimeJune. I love carbs T_T

So happy for you! You really are taking control. I love seeing all your tweets about the exercise & pounds lost. Keep at it!

And I agree with AnimeJune. Get a little crockpot and have your dinner waiting for you when you get home. It's also a super healthy way to cook.

Yes, what others have said - try to prepare what you can of your dinners ahead of time. Most days I work until 6PM, which means I'm lucky to be home around 6:30PM - which means by the time I make dinner, eat dinner, clean-up after dinner and exercise? I'm whipped.

Also, if you can plan your meals out ahead of time (like have the whole week lined up!) - that helps too :)

I spend some time once or twice a week cooking up big things of vegetables which I divide into servings and freeze... it's not too bad a chore with a good audiobook to listen to. Those cheap little plastic containers they have now are very useful.

I'm also diabetic and it's had a very positive impact on my life. Have lost well over 100 pounds, exercise, ride my bike everywhere and eat an extremely healthy diet.

((((Kristie))))

I'm so glad to hear you are hanging in there--exhaustion and all.

(Also, crock pots, if your eating regime allows, and easy to throw together salads.)

It's good to hear from you again. Diabetes is a kick in the pants. I was recently told I'm pre-D. So I have to watch myself now. Lots of good advice here for me to take as well. Hang in there!

Oh by the way, Kristie! If you want to get back to the old look of blogger, you can :)

One step at a time is all you can do. And since you're taking more steps.... yay you!

I'm finding that making a weekly menu is helping a lot for making dinners since I plan everything out before.

Willa... 100 pounds? What did you do???

Changed my diet, started exercising daily, but most importantly, ate less. Portion control is essential, I find.

Willful!! I bow to you. You are my hero. Wow, that is awesome, and so encouraging as that's about what I'm hoping to lose to.

Lori, I'm just starting to get the hang of long range planning now. *g*. It's a total 180 from the way I used to not meal plan.

Nath, *chuckle* I don't mind the new Blogger look, I just wasnt expecting it. And except for a few exceptions, bad ones, carbs aren't my fave. Now I've started eating BEANS of all things!

Phyl, the way I was going, I'm actually surprised I wasn't diagnosed earlier, but now, for me, it's been a good thing. I'm feeling so good these days.

AL, it's *g* a good tired. As I keep telling my PT, yes, it almost hurts, but it's a good hurt.

Willful, as I said, whooohoo to you! You are who I'm wanting to be :-). So far it's been very positive for me too. You must feel SO much better about yourself now than you did before you were diagnosed with diabetes. Now, do you still have to take meds for it? I'm hoping down the road I won't have to. I'm hoping to get off HBP meds too when I get to where I want to get to. I know I may not get off them, but I'm hoping.

Wendy *g* it took a bit of time, but now I have my meals planned for the next week and a half or so.

Lori, the tweets are kind of preprogrammed. When I update Loseit, it automatically sends tweets, but if my journey inspires any others out there, then that is all good :-)

AnimeJune, I have a crock pot. Good idea, I should dig it out and start using it. The family never liked food cooked in the crockpot, but I always did so I should start using it. I'm finding even this is a process!

Kristie, would you believe I still have some weight to lose?! I'd like to shed about another 25 pounds.

I no longer need any diabetes meds and my blood pressure is very low; I hope you will be able to get off your meds too!

Willaful: I'm hoping to lose about 115 altogether, but I'd be happy with 100 since as my mantra is "it's not about the weight, it's about feeling good" and while that's true - it's also about the weight too *g* if I'm totally honest. I'm glad to hear you are off your diabetes meds!! It gives me hope :-)
