Well, work has been done behind the scenes and I'm happy to say we have a date and a place and bloggers and looking for more.

Kristie, I've never travelled outside of the US but Canada really isn't that far for me. If I was able to make it, do I need a passport if I drive in?

Good question! I don't know but I'll find out. I've had one for a few years now so I haven't kept up on the latest rules.
OK - I just googled it and this is what is says
"When entering Canada from the United States, U.S. citizens must show either a U.S. passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship - such as an original or certified birth certificate together with photo identification. U.S. citizens entering Canada from a third country must have a valid passport. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens for a stay up to 180 days."

However, getting back into the US is a bit trickier.
"On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or other travel document approved by the Department of Homeland Security."

It looks like you have to have a passport or a special passport card :(

Sounds like fun I wish I could go, but I'm going to Vegas the following week and well, two trips in two weeks - it's just not going to happen! LOL!

Barbara, I drove up to Ottowa over the Thousand Island Bridge about 4 years ago and didn't have a passport, but I needed my birth certificate, etc. Best just to get a passport to be on the safe side now due to US rules. I was actually stopped by customs because I was bringing my son's old toys to my friend's young son in Ottawa, and silly me - put them all in liquor bottle boxes! Oops, won't do that again!

Mainer chiming in to just confirm -- yes, you need a passport!

Only 12 hours away... plan one in New Brunswick and I'm there.

I'd love to go, but halfway across the country is not possible at the moment. Maybe next year! Have fun!

It sounds like lots of fun. Out of interest, will someone write it up?

(Yeah, I know, I'm useless at subtle hints :)

I'm torn! Not outrageously far for me, but in the morning I have no child care and in the afternoon is the monthly writer's group meeting...

Ooh, thanks for the info, Kristie. I have to look in to a passport anyway. Hmmm...I wonder how long they take to get. I have to make a trip to the post office tomorrow anyway and they have the applications there.

I just never needed one so I never bothered. I know, shame on me. If I can make it I'll let you know.
