A little bit of this - a litte bit of that

A Little Bit of This

Attention Crusaders!!

There is something that has been brought to my attention that needs to be rectified. I almost gasped in horror when I realized it. In fact – I do believe I did gasp!

It seems that Lea of ClosetWriter, the one who has been holding the best kissing scenes poll, has not seen the (almost a lock) potential winner!!

Yes Crusaders – she has not seen North and South!!

I Know!!

I find it hard to believe myself. And not only has she not seen it, neither have two other bloggers who have romance blogs, Cecile and Kara. The most romantic four hour movie evah and they haven’t seen it. This situation must not be allowed to continue! How can Lea fully appreciate the (almost a lock) potential winner without ever having seen the lead-up to the Most Wonderful Kiss, without knowing what John and Margaret have gone through; without feeling his heartbreak?

How can she make it a proper and fair vote without coming to know that the John Thornton we meet at the beginning isn’t really a true representation of who he really is – a caring and ‘passionate’ business man, a man who is confident in his business affairs yet so unsure that a young woman of a higher class can actually love him?

And you can see why one tears up when Margaret’s father explains John Thornton’s tragic history. You need to see the ™ by Carrie 'Fist of Doom'. And the costume drama of it all, the score, the cinematography, they all must be watched and savoured.

Lea, Cecile, Kara and any other romance bloggers who haven’t seen this, I implore – nay – I beseech – that you find some way, some opportunity to set at least four hours aside to watch this. I say at least four because there is every likelihood that seeing it once just won’t be enough! So many of The Crusaders rented this but then went on to purchase a copy of their own. There was even one Crusader who had her DVD break down once it played North and South – refusing to play any other movie.

Please – for the love of all things romance – ease my mind and my heart and my romance loving soul – watch this and let us know how much it affects you. Stand proudly and become part of The Crusaders! Join US

And a little bit of that

Kitten update

Well, I have my kitten. She is adorable, full of kitten fur and a delight – with reservations. She purrs like a machine. I have given her the name de plume Calliope, The Calico Cat to go along with Zina The Princess Nota Warrior Cat. She is mostly black with orange highlights and a white ruff. When I figure out how to download pictures with the new camera (and when I find the cords and stuff I need to do this) I shall post pictures.

However – and I am not used to this – she is a counter kitten. She loves to jump up on the counters. Lisa, my middle sister will think this hilarious as I laughed at her counter cat Willis and her inability to break Willis of this habit. And of course I can’t mention her adorability without mentioning the leather chair she has already scratched the hell out of one of my *sob* new leather kitchen chairs.

Zina lives up to her name in Nota Warrior Cat and seems to be almost afraid of this little kitten half her size. I thought Zina might have her nose out of joint about getting a little sister – but she seems more puzzled, bordering on terrified of her new little sister.

And in honour of the newest addition, here is something I find hilarious!!

Excerpts from a Cat's Daily Diary..

Day 983 of my captivity...

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the othe
r inmates and I are
fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets.

Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly c
lear, I
nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an

attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their

feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it

clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made
condescending comments about what a 'good little hunter' I am.
Bastards.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was
placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event.
However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that
my confinement was due to the power of 'allergies.' I must learn what

this means and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my
tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try
this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and
snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly
released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is
obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicating with
the guards regularly. I am certain that h
e reports my every move. My
captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell,
so he is safe. For now.................

Your kitty sounds sweet. :)

I am another romance blogger who has not had the viewing pleasure of North and South. I have it on my To Do list after your email explaining what The Crusaders were. Having not seen the 4 hour long movie, I voted for Titanic. Sigh.

Cute diary entries!!!

Thank You Heather. :)

Lea, Cecile, Kara and others - SHAME ON YOU! Says the person who hasn't yet read Broken Wing....pot, meet kettle :)

And Kristie, your kitten sounds gorgeous. Although as for the counters...personally, I'm fond of the water pistol deterrent...

Kristie I watched this for the first time with my Mum on the weekend and we LOVED it! What a great kiss!!!!! I love how he just reaches over to hold her hand as she's talking to him *sigh*. Thank you for making me watch this. I too am a crusader now!

Annie - Isn't it just everything we promised it would be? Now you see why it NEEDED a Crusade to get romance lovers to watch it. It's a rare thing - to see a movie so wonderfully romantic and such a great story. Have you gone back to the beginnings of The Crusade? And now you can read what all The Crusaders had to say about it (left sidebar) Now you my apprentice Crusader have one final step. You must do a post on your thoughts about this moving love story of John Thornton and Margaret Hale :-)

Orannia: Here's hoping you and the others who have signed on board for your Broken Wing challenge enjoy it as much as North and South - though of course they are two different mediums *g*. And while the counter thing must be stopped - it's the scratching up of my leather furniture that really has me ticked at my dear Calliope.

Cecile: Well - if you've never heard of it before ;-)
And you do have those yummie pics on your sidebar - including White Shirt so you are half way there already!! If you are interested in the history of The Great North and South Crusade
http://kristiej.blogspot.com/search/label/Great%20North%20and%20South%20Crusade

heh heh it went on for a while - and is still going - just like the energizer bunny

Heather: Well then - are you in for a treat!! It's just the yummiest, most romantic movie I've ever seen *g*

Lea: ROTFL - AT LEAST FOUR HOURS You see - for oh so many of us, four hours is just the beginning. It's the kind of movie you need to watch more than once to pick up all the little things that one might not notice with just one viewing. And now that you and the others have been challenged - I will be watching. heh heh heh.

CJ: They won't be sorry will they? :-) It's the kind of movie that stays with you long after you've seen it - just like an A+ book!

Kristie, the counter thing is not that difficult (water pistol and consistency)

For the leather chairs, my only suggestion is: provide scratching posts or pads, cover the chairs with something for the foreseeable future and trim the kitten's claws regularly, even if it's just the very tip.

Here's hoping!!!

pssstttt! didja see my email?

His name is Lewis - not Willis, and yes, I am laughing my guts out - once a "counter cat" always a "counter cat". Good luck with the water bottle thing - it works for a couple of minutes and then I come into the kitchen and there is is - sprawled on he counter - comfy as all get out. Like I say - good luck!! If your control freak sister can't keep her lovely Lewis off the counter, you don't stand a chance... HEH, HEH, HEH.

*Looks at Crusaders list - wishes name was on there.
*Needs to set aside AT LEAST 4 hours.
*Doesn't dare mention how long DVDs have been sitting there, unwatched.
*Hangs head in shame. Thankful not alone.*

On the brighter side, you're new kitten sounds adorable. :)

Kristie- we have 4 cats. For both the counter and the furniture there are these invisible sticky strips that you can get at the pet store. If you put the sticky strips along the edges of the counter, they don't like jumping on that.

Same with furniture. Just put the strips on the furniture that kitty is scratching. Even if they have scratch posts and such, they will still prefer the furniture. snort.

So best to cover it.

I also put a thick bed spread folded up on a chair that they like to scratch and that stopped them.

They are so cute, but can totally trash you house. Buggers... LOL

Oh you must watch, you must! Sure, the kissing scene in N&S is nice, but there's even more yummy goodness throughout.

Aw, your new baby sounds so sweet. I love the "day 983 of my captivity" LOL.

You kitten sounds so cute! And I agree with AL's advice. Water pistols and consistency will work. And a scratching post is a must (not that it helps you now, sorry about your chairs)

see... nothing about Crusaders... *hides behind Orannia*

Kristie (J) said...

AL: Zina won't let me trim her nails but then she doesn't scratch things. Silly me - I just assumed Calliope would be the same. I will try the water pistol thing. I have a scratching post - got it for Zina but she never used it. As for the leather chairs - that's what's bugging me the most. They are new and I'm freaking out at what she is doing to them!!

Lisa: *head smack* I knew that!! Willis is the older brother on Different Strokes. Why do I keep getting them mixed up - I know - old age. And I figured you'd get a kick out of knowing that I have a counter cat too. Next time you're over you can laugh and laugh and laugh at your big sister.

Leslie: AHA!!! You just outed yourself. It seems then that you have some time to set aside. You can start slow. Plan on only an hour for the first episode (but have 3 more hours just in case) and just take it an hour at a time. Chances are quite good though I think that after that first hour, you will want to keep watching. And now you are on my watch list too ;-)

Leah: thanks for the advice. I'll check out the pet store tomorrow and see what they have - before all of my chairs that I paid so much money for and couldn't believe I spent that much but it was for my new kitchen, are all ruined.

Stacy: Crusader extrordinaire - I knew I could count on you to help encourage the new Crusaders in waiting.
And I love the whole cat diary. As any slaves of a cat can testify, so much of that is true.

Et Tu Aymless? Well - it looks like there is a whole new generation of cadet Crusaders just waiting in the wings to join.
And hopefully the scratching post might deter her a bit.

I remember seeing the shocked post about N&S not winning right before I watched it. And after I watched it, all I could think of is "if there are better movie kisses than that one out there, damn, I want to see them!" -- willaful

I voted for N&S at the best screen kiss contest lol

I really must see North and South. I am not a romance reader, so I think I can be excused for being slow!

Enjoy your kitten!

I didn't know that!! LEA!!!! I can't believe it.

I'm late but I have to say: I love your "little bit of this" and your "little bit of that!" North and South is a definite "must-watch!" and cats/kitten = just adorable (though I'm sorry about your chair). I already knew the pet diary but it's always hilarious to read it again. I think I even have it on file somewhere! LOL

Sweet said...

I know this is a tad, late about your kitten. But, you could try taping aluminum foil to your counters. Cats don't like the feel of it on their feet. I tried the water gun method but all my cat learned was to not jump on the counters when I was around. I'd catch her late at night just having a grand ole time all over my counters. The foil finally did the trick.

Hey Kristie,

On the cat front... loooove the cat diary thing... got that in an e-mail some time ago.

And to cure a 'counter cat' (why does that sound like a covert operative?) line the counter with noise-making things, tin cans, etc. When the cat jumps up, it will knock stuff off and scare itself (and you, but it should only take a while to cure it, hopefully) silly.
