Lest We Forget

Today is Rememberance Day. My father served very proudly in the Royal Canadian Air Force in WWII.

He lost two brothers and we never got to meet two uncles.

Whatever one's opinion on war, we have to admire and honour those who choose to serve our country.

I will think of my father, his brothers and so many more who lost their lives. And the brave men and women who are continuing to loose their lives - for us.

And I will wear my Poppy proudly today.

My dad is a retired fighter pilot and served in the Vietnam war. I had two uncles who were in WWII and were never the same afterward...according to my Dad. One came home with a metal plate in his head. They went as babies (18 and 19 years old, struggled with education, alcohol and relationships all their lives. To a certain extent my Dad falls in the same category.

You don't just give up your life when you die...sometimes you give up the life you would have lived...that's a sort of dying too.

So, yes, I honor deeply those who serve.

I really appreciate all who served.
It takes guts to go out there and protect what good in this world.

I think the Veterans that I admire most are the WWII ones.
For some reason, I think that is the most awful war to this date, and shall always be. *knock on wood*

Thank you Kristie for giving me the chance to sit and think about our veterans today. I missed all the ceremonies because of my sleep but I loved this song and the man (boy?) who's singing it is wonderful.

I actually keep my poppies all year. I usually have them in my car pinned on the ceiling. I figure if I keep them then I will remember more often than just once a year. Every time I go for a drive I see my poppies and remember those who gave up much more than I could ever imagine.

I swear there is a special place in my heart for those who serve. Like Rosie says, even those men and women who are lucky enough to come back are never the same again.

That was very nice Kristie as you know Kevin my husband is retired from the military and we still have alot of friends enlisted, some on deployement overseas, family members who served in ww11. so we proudly support all military personell and wear our Poppy's. However I was deeply ashamed of A&P grocery last week outside the door there was a gentlemen, elderly with his poppy tray in uniform shivering, runny nose as I gave my donation I asked why he wasn't standing just inside the door where it was warmer, he said the grocery store didn't want him there at all and not indoors. I wrote a&P as a majority of their customer at that store are seniors how must they feel to be so disrepected. He should have proudly been offered a chair indoors, how can we teach the children respect and remembrance with that kind of disregard. So thank you for posting.
