Am I missing the boat on this one?

By now we’ve all probably hear the news that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are having a baby. I was watching Entertainment Tonight last night. It was either that or Jeopardy and shallow me – went with ET. They ran a story "celebrating????" their love story.
Now is it just me or is there something fundamentally wrong with a show that promotes and encourages a story where the guy who by all reports is relatively happily married to a beautiful and successful and from what we know of her, warm and charming woman, meets another woman and screws around on his wife.
The point of this isn’t so much against Brad and Angelina. I have my own thoughts on what those two did. But for a major entertainment program to celebrate that adultery is just wrong. Just morally, horrendously wrong.
From here on in it’s Jeopardy all the way.

And while I'm at it. Is it not a scary thing that of all the wonderful movies out right now that the number 1 box office movie of the weekend was Hostel - a graphically diturbingly violent movie? From what I've read on this one it takes graphic violence to a whole new level. Now I know a lot of young people - men in particular - thrive on this kind of movie. I've got two of them myself that will probably see it. But #1? Making the sales it did??? I find that scary.

‘til later

Kristie,

I totally agree with you. What's the world coming to?

p.s. I see you've recently gotten yourself a Roberta Gellis book. I love the ancient Greek romances redone by her.

Let me know how you find Roselynde.

When the promo for the "Brad and Angelina" story came up on the TODAY show yesterday morning, my response to my husbands was "Who the heck cares??"

Why are we obsessed with these people if we knew people like them we'd be telling them to grow up and knock off the crap.

I'm with you for the most part but we don't know what went wrong with Pitt's marriage. Sure, there were rumours but that came out after Pitt and Aniston were separated.

Course, I find Hollywood to be almost incestuous in it's relationship. The whole Ben and Jennifer (first one) was horrid and then he ends up married to the other Jen who works with her ex-boyfriend who is in a movie with Jennifer Lopez. My brain hurts when I think about it.

I always enjoy a movie or TV show better when I have no clue what is going on in the actor's personal lives.

I just don't want to know. Beautiful people who can't stay married. Ugh. Like one comedian said, if these people can't remain attracted and in love, what the hell chance do the rest of us have?

On the news last night they had a poll asking who was to blame in the Brad/Jennifer break up - Brad Jen or Angelina. I really really really wanted to write in and ask why it was necessary to assign blame to anyone, number 1, and number 2, why this was an appropriate poll for the nightly news? But then it was the same news station that ran the report about the family that sold themselves on ebay so maybe they had nothing else to talk about...

I find it amusing that people have nothing else to talk about than the whole Brad/Angelina/Jen thing. Frankly, nobody EVER knows what happens in a marriage. For the all the publc knows Jen might be the bitch from hell. Or maybe she's the sweetest girl in the world and Brad just can't keep his "little brad" in his pants? Who really knows? Only Brad and Jen. Period. For the rest of us - why do we care?

Aren't there more important things to worry about? Think about? Discuss? Like this really fabulous story I read last night about a doctor who is working with heroin addicts in Iran for instance:

Can't remember what I was watching at the time, probably CNN Headline News, but the one that made me go "UGH!" was when they led the story with something along the lines that it'll be the most beautiful baby alive.

Call me jaded but I've never really seen either Brad or Angelina as all that beautiful to begin with and hearing the same thing said repeatedly didn't improve my opinion. Or mood. Oye. I wish they'd give it a rest. Really.

Pitt has said that he and Angelina didn't get together until after the split. (But then, really, what else is he going to say?)

I like Angelina Jolie, as an actress, anyway. I hope for the sake of the kids that the relationship lasts. I feel pretty cynical about Hollywood relationships.

I agree 100%. These are the same people who will tell you that gay marriage is wrong because it undermines the sanctity of marriage. Hello?

As for Hostel, I think it is a disgrace. I will never understand why sex is such a bad thing in the movies and violence isn't. It's not the same thing at all. At least sex is creative. Hollywood has everything so skewed. I am reminded of the movie "Serial Mom". In that film there was a girl who was ultra goth and thought that slasher films were great. At least until she saw the real thing and it turned her into a pacifist...

Kristie, your reaction was the same as mine. I have never really understood the appeal of Jolie. I think she's unattractive actually. I predict it won't last anyway. Actors marrying another actor is a bad idea. It very rarely works because egos get in the way. Most of them are way to self-centered to make marriage work. I give Brad and Angelina 5 years tops and he'll be moving on. Call me cynical.

I'm thinking this is just the beginning. We are going to be inundated with stories of this hollywood *dream* couple. Gag! Of course since I'll be watching Jeopardy, I'll be missing most of it. Now if only I can talk Ron into watching that second episode of Judge Joe Brown instead of Access Hollywood...... And Wendy you are so right. There are so much good and life affirming stories but how much do we really hear about them?

Ag: I will let you know what I think of Roselynde. This is one of those quirks I think most of us romance fans can relate too. I've heard what a wonderful writer she is so I've been picking up her books whenever I see one. I think I have 4 or 5 now. But I've yet to actually start reading one. I know I'm not alone in this odd habit.

The really odd thing and I prolly shouldn't admit this....

Is I had no clue. Period, I don't watch the news. I haven't been much on reading news online.

So until it was blogged, hadn't heard about it. Really I so need to cut my cable to like basic. I am paying for a tv gather dust.

Is Hostel a Tarantino film? If so, I'll *definitely* see it, because he might do violence and blood and gore, something I'm not really into, but his characters are so well done, the story arc is always fantastic and different and makes me think differently about storytelling. Of course, I'll have to see it on DVD so I can pause, fast forward or just run away.

As for Brad & Angie, those crazy kids, well, sure, Jen might be a bitch from hell but I've just been unable to take him seriously since. I think he's a fine actor, really, and that's all that should metter, I shouldn't care about it. I just thought he seemed smarter than that. (Brad, any time you want to call and discuss, be happy to hear from you but bring George along, would you? Kthanx!)

Hostel was produced by Tarantino. They are using his name all over the advertising but he did not direct nor did he write it.
