Upcoming Book Alert

I don't know if you know this or not, *big grin* but there was a book that came out a couple of years ago now that I went - well - kind of nuts over. In case you missed it, the book was Broken Wing by Judith James. I had to read it 5 times before I could move onto another book.

And while her next book, Highland Rebel didn't have quite the same effect, it's rare that a book knocks me that sideways, it only happens every few years and when it does - watch out :-), I really did love Highland Rebel.

I was cruising Fiction DB not long ago and saw that her third book was coming out in what I thought was July - but now it might be August - whatever the month - this is one of my most highest anticipated book of the whole year.

I tried finding a picture of the cover, but couldn't find it anywhere. So I emailed Judith and asked if she had seen the cover and where I might find it to add to my sidebar. She emailed me back - attaching the cover!!! YES!!

So here it is - she's writing for HQN now and they gave her a fabulous cover. I was looking for a blurb but didn't find one. BUT I do know from what Judith wrote in her email that:

"It's a 17th Restoration love story between a Cavalier and a Puritan woman who were childhood friends."

Does that sound cool and different or what!?!?

Libertine's Kiss

I know time flies, but I hope it really flies until I get this one in my hot little hands!!

*~*~*~*~*UPDATE*~*~*~*~*

Ahhhh- through the power of Twitter and the friends on Twitter, I've found a description:

Abandoned by his cavalier father at a young age, William de Veres grew up knowing precious little happiness. But William has put the past firmly behind him and as a military hero and noted rake, he rises fast in the ranks of the hedonistic Restoration court. Until he is forced to seek shelter from a young Puritan woman...

The civil wars have cost the once-high-spirited Elizabeth Walters her best friend and her father, leaving her unprotected and alone. She flees an unwanted marriage, seeking safe haven, but what she finds is something she never expected. When her kindness and her beauty bring her to the attention of William, and then the king, she will have a choice to make. After all, can a notorious libertine really be capable of love?

Doesn't this sound scrumptious?

Now I have to read Broken Wing if it affected you that deeply. I love when people have that strong a reaction to a book.

and that cover is lush. She must be so happy with it.

Lori - oh it did affect me deeply *g*. As I said - I read it five times before I could move on to another book. I've also read it a number of times since then and each time I do, I fall totally in love with it all over again :-)
Both books she's written were fabulous. And she does love the cover of Libertines Kiss - heh, heh, heh - which author wouldn't?

Cool! I'm reading "Highland Rebel" now and love it and I love the idea of her writing a story about a Puritan and a cavalier during the Restoration! I wasn't as wowed by her first as much as you were, but I really am loving this one. Her third sounds great - will definitely read it. Having recently read "Forever Amber", I'm into the Restoration these days! Thanks for the alert!

I think I saw this book up at NetGalley.com! So if You do digital, you could have an advance peak at it,Kristie ;);

Pearl: ROTFL - I'm working on it :-)

Oh Marcella - you simply MUST move it up to the #1 spot - truly - you won't be sorry. It's an amazing book!

Anna: I loved both her books so far so I figure this one will be the same!!

Julie: It's funny how different books can affect us different ways. While Broken Wing was such the book for me, it sounds like Highland Rebel is the one doing it for you *g*

As you are well aware, I was underwhelmed by Broken Wing, but I really enjoyed Highland Rebel (which made my Best Of 2009 list) - so I'm really looking forward to this one. My sources are showing an August 1 laydown date - and barring any snafus (missed deadlines etc.), that will probably stick. HQ, in my experience, doesn't shuffle around release dates all that often.....

Ooooh, which makes me wonder if this one might be at RWA this summer - since the conference is LATE July.....

Excuse my typos....I was really excited when i saw this post!!

Nicole *g* Typos excused. I was super excited when I saw this coming out so soon too - relatively speaking of course.

Wendy - that would be ever so wonderful if they had it at RWA. I simply can't wait to read it. And even should I get an earlier ecopy, I plan on getting at least two paper copy - one to read and one to preserve *g*

I still need to read BROKEN WING, but I finally do have a copy in my hands.

I knew this would perk Wendy's attention, since it's a Restoration period-set book. I think that's her era of choice...

And, honestly, after the series of books I've read by Susan Holloway Scott, featuring Charless II and his various mistresses, I can see why she likes it so much.

I'm so excited to read a romance set in the Restoration! You don't see that every day. And that cover is awesome. Yum!

My jaw has not only dropped, but has dug a trench, it dropped that low. New Judith James. Restoration setting. With Harlequin. That cover. Loved her two previous books and absolutely cannot wait for this one.

Hi Kristie! :)
I loved Broken Wing, too!!
This next Judith James novel does indeed sound wonderful! And what a gorgeous, gorgeous cover. I LOVE it. Thanks so much for the heads up on this one... I can't wait!

Lynn Spencer said...

Oh, thanks for posting the cover! I've been waiting for this book for months, and all I had to go on was a very brief blurb with no cover image. I actually loved Highland Rebel, and I'm excited to finally get a 17th century romance to read - those are way too few and far between!

Sybil - I emailed you *g*

Nath: yep - two years I think. Time goes by fast doesn't it? Unless one is waiting for a call from Chapters that is - then it seems to crawl by. And isn't the cover gorgeous?

Lynn: Books written in that time ARE to few and far aren't they? I adored both books she's written so far and I don't see why this one will be any different at all. I'm glad I could help you out :-)

Christine: Everything about it sounds totally yummy to me! I can't WAIT to read it!!

Anna: I know!! Me too. When I saw it was up for release at FictionDB, I couldn't wait to see the cover - and the blurb on what it was about. Even though she's only written two books so far, both of them are incredible.

Kaetrin: I'm so OD'd on books set in Regency times. The Restoration setting is one that has very few books and I was so excited to see it!!

Amy: You do, you do, you do need to read Broken Wing. At least having the book is more than half that battle *g*.

Kwana said...

Ohhh La La. I can't wait. I still remember Broken Wing and how i could not forget it and my mixed feelings. I have to read this.

Hello Kristie, I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying your blog and to thank you for all your lovely to-read tips :D! I originally found your blog because I wanted to know if other ppl were as knocked over by Broken Wing as I was and I am so glad you and many of your readers share my impression! I love that book so much that I even considered forcing it on my friend who isn't into romance novels at all- apart maybe the occasional one by the one and only Ms Heyer.
I enjoyed Highland Rebel I did not find it as unusual as Broken Wing which to me stands out and apart from the usual genre. I think Broken Wing compares well to Rangoon by Christine Monson, which I bought over 20 years ago and still reread from time to time even now. I shall definitely read Ms James new novel when it comes out and in the meantime enjoy your lovely blog. Thank you again :)
