I'd like to tackle a serious subject for a moment
In the most recent Smart Bitches post, they are calling the hair style of the cover model 'a mullet'. I disagree.
As defined by Wikipedia,: "The mullet is a hairstyle that is short at the front and sides, and long in the back."
Not meaning to upset Sarah or Candy, but I think they are too 'liberal' with the use of the word mullet when discussing mantitty covers. Just because the male model may have longish hair, does not a mullet make it. As someone from the 'older' generation who still prefers long hair on men, I must make my protestations known.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here are some of the differences in picture form.
Mullet
Not a Mullet
Mullet
Not a Mullet
Mullet
Not a Mullet
Mullet
Not a Mullet
Mullet
Not a Mullet
Seriously - do you think either Nicole Kidman or Halle Berry would be involved with guys who wear mullets? I think not.

And as a Canadian citizen ... you would certainly know.
(ducks and runs!!)
And here I was thinking that I had been the only one that thought the man in the cover was not sporting a mullet =)
Haha - I didn't think that cover had a mullet either! I must say though, I think your third example of a mullet is actually a "femullet", if I'm not mistaken...
Jessica: ROTFL!!!! Hockey Helmut Hair is a whole different subject altogether. It's caused mainly by the Warriors on Ice and the sweating they do for The Game. And I need to point out that the MOST FAMOUS HOCKEY MULLET was actually NOT worn by a Canadian but by Jaromir Jagr from Czechoslovakia ;) He did indeed though, wear a full blown mullet!!
Jerr: See - I didn't think so either - thus the NEED to point out - with pictures - the difference *g*
Patti *laughing* I kind of thought so too after I posted it and looked closer. Which - in a scary way - is even worse!!!
Attack Of The Mullets! ARGH! I'm having high school flashbacks!
For me, the quintessential mullet will always, always be Billy Ray Cyrus from his Achy Breaky days. Yikes!
LOL! Thanks for clearing that up. SB Sarah, take note. :D
OMG! I just about died laughing.
I think you make your case well, Kristie.
I had a chick-mullet for a while in the ’80s. It's not one of those things I admit lightly. Bu seriously with my hair it was hard to find anything to do with it.
Kristie- I had the same reaction as you. That didn't look like a mullet to me and I wondered what SB were talking about.
But you made your case in a very cute way. :D
Pamela: I think one of the most interesting things about us women is those who have straight hair wish is was curly and those who have curly hair wish it was straight. I don't know why that is - but I've found scientifically that it's at least 75% of the case.
Jill: I've noticed on occasion before they have described a hair style on the guy as a mullet when I haven't thought it was in the true sense of the word. But pictures do work so much better *g*.
Wendy: Billy Ray Cirus and Jaromir Jagr are the two that come to my mind - and David Spade in that movie whose title I forget at the moment.
LVLM: I'm glad others are agreeing with me - because if they weren't that would mean that YIKES!!! I like mullets - and I don't - I really, really don't
DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER!!! Now there's another guy with a mullet. It just came to me!
I'm a hairstylist, and Kristie, I agree with you on what a mullet is.
Barbara: AHA!!! An expert weighs in on the debate. I know that they style on guys is short hair - neither of my sons have hardly any - of course my youngest is losing his anyway I think so maybe it's a good thing for him, but I'm of the age where longer is better. And not just longer at the back *g*.
LOLOL. I have a friend who takes a camera to the state fair every year for the express purpose of taking stealth mullet pics.
Thanks for the giggle!
ps, I'm sad that dontjudgemyhair.com has apparently turned into something else. it was better before. :(
A picture is worth a thousand words indeed!
Thank you, Kristie
DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER!!! Now there's another guy with a mullet. It just came to me!
That's so funny because this AM when I first logged onto the computer, I thought of him and his mullet. The DH and I watch him all the time and I keep repeating that he should get rid of that thing.
Especially, there was a repeat of the Mother's Day show and Beth is grooming her little boy's hair, which is also a mullet. And I kept saying, cut that kids hair. Why you torture him with hair from the 80's? LOL
LOL, great post Kristie :D I took a look at the cover and definitively not a mullet. Seriously, how could a mullet be so popular?!?!
In French, it's call "Coupe Longueuil"... and Longueuil is a town... can you imagine how many ppl in that town must have sported the hairstyle for the mullet to be called that?!?!
Who is the guy with the hair in his face and where do I get one?
Barbara, thanks for stepping in and settling the issue! Expert testimony takes the day. :-)
Kristie, I think you're probably right. We want what we don't have.
I'm often afraid that I'll be mistaken for a living hay bale and fed to cattle because my hair is so wild. So guess what? I might be getting my hair chemically straightened next month. There's some new process from Brazil that supposedly doesn't damage hair and lasts for about 3 months. I'm getting blown straight this Friday just to see what I think. My stylist says my hair will be down to my butt when it's straight. That could be cool.
I hope you were spared mullet nightmares last night. :-)
LOLOL Kristie: Clarification much appreciated...
Nicola: Oh your friend must have a blast doing that!!! And the pictures she could get - probably many like the first one!!
AL: *grin* Hopefully I made my point that longer hair on guys does not = mullets!!
LVLM: OK - I'm going to refrain - though it's difficult - as to asking why the first thing you think of when booting up your computer, is a) Mullets or b) Dog the Bounty Hunter *laughing*
I've actually never seen the show, though I have seen advertisements for it.
Nath: LOL!! That alone would probably keep me from visiting Longueuil, the thought of them all having the same mullet-like hairstyle *shudder*
Carolyn and Lori: Well - If I ever find him, I'll pass him along to you - after I get to play with him a bit myself first *wink*
Pamela: Thank goodness no mullet filled nightmares. I've been using one of those straight iron thingy's to make my hair straighter. I tried one day to make it curly, but is was a horrid failure - and I hadn't left enough time to fix it before I went to work. I avoided the washroom mirror as much as I could that day.
I imagine it would be quite the thing to see yourself with straight hair after all these years!!
Lea: I do have a lot more I 'collected' but then I would have gone into mullet overkill.
Kristie, and you didn't even include Josh Holloway (Sawyer for you non-LOST fans) in there.
Thanks for the non-mullet eyecandy. All I can say to the rest...oh, dear. I'm glad I didn't have to make the decision to follow that style! ;)

I'm never going to be able to delete those mullet images from my brain, am I? *grin*
Thank you Kristie!
No one said this about the mullet: "business in the front, party in the back!"
Thanks Kristie(J), That clarification was long overdue. And very, very funny. And might I just add that I had what they called a "Shag" in the early 70s, that some have called a mullet. And it was shagadelic, if I do say so. Jocelyn
Kristie I agree with you that the SB's sometimes get a bit loose with the mullet definition. I hope you win the contest (and don't win the wig) for the sole reason that you seem to have a better grasp on the definition of the mullet.
and, of course, go Habs go! hahaha
