There is a reason........

Do you ever......catch something out of the corner of your eye, look down and think some kind of weird and strange bug is making it’s way up your chest. You screech and start batting at it, only to discover it’s a piece of fluff?

Do you ever......start eating those teeny little cinnamon hearts that are so hot they burn your mouth – but you keep eating them anyway even though you hate spicy food?

Do you ever......notice when you forget to put the cap on the toothpaste for a few days and if you live by yourself with no one around to put it back on for you, that it dries up at the top? And when you go to use it – not because you haven’t brushed your teeth for a few days – but you felt like a change in toothpaste – you squeeze and squeeze the tube to get it out and sometimes instead of coming out the top, it squirts out the bottom?

Do you ever......get carried away so much by a book that you aren’t really paying attention to what you are doing when you make a coffee, and kind of forget to put the coffee mug under and when you hear that final gurgle and go to get your coffee, it’s all over the counter top?

Do you ever......find yourself running late and you just grab your purse, which is hooked onto the kettle and the kettle goes flying and you end up with water all over the floor and no time at all to wipe it up? So you just real quickly throw a bunch of towels and kind of stomp over them to absorb the water and then hope the floor isn’t ruined when you get home?

Do you ever......leave the back door open so your cat can look out the screen door and then kind of forget you did that and head off to bed – in the middle of winter – only to discover to your horror the next morning that you left the door wide open and unlocked?

Do you ever......keep track of your books in either an excel spreadsheet of an online book cataloguing system and still forget to add any new ones? And then you see the same book and think again it looks interesting so you buy it again? But by the time you discover you already have a copy, you’ve lost the receipt. You could turn them into a UBS but it would be ever so much fun to do something else.

At least I think so. And thus begins

Kristie’s Ooooo-psie Contest

The first book up is His Captive by Diana Cosby. I haven’t read it yet so I can’t give a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I got my first copy when it first came out and neglected to record it anywhere and kind of forgot I got it. Then when her second book came out, I figured I needed to get the first one - *sigh* and ordered it online when I needed a fairly inexpensive book to make the minimum for free shipping.

So – how do you win you ask? Well – let’s see, just leave a comment with anything dumb you might have done – big or small – so I know I’m not alone in my d’oh moments. I’ll pick a random winner on Saturday.

There will be no rhyme or reason to this give-away. I’m trying to get my books organized so I’ll have one whenever I discover a duplicate and think “ooop-sie”.

~~~***~~~
And an update to the previous post, and thanks to the wonders of YouTube, if you listen to Eh Tu Tom around the 14 second mark you can hear him utter those words he obviously stole from Smart Bitches. If you want to keep watching, the dance is pretty good.
But if you want to see EXCELLENT and missed it last night, this one was the night’s winner.
K, as I was lecturing to my youngest son about paying better attention and taking better care (he is the most absentminded person I've ever met), I happened to walk right into a signpost. Yeah, I'm not the most graceful of people, and it didn't make the lecture the most ... ummm... pertinent? But, hey, I was looking at him when I was talking. Eye contact is very important, right?
Lori: Right indeed!! Eye contact is ever so much more important then the actual message - ROTFL!! And if it makes you feel better, I can't count the number of doors, walls, vacuum cleaners I've run into.
Aaaaaahhh!!! I hung out with Diana at an author conference this weekend and just ordered a copy of her book this morning. Damn it! If only I'd waited! LOLOL (She's super sweet, by the way, even when I was squished up next to her in the back seat of a tiny car on the way to dinner.)
Oh, and I swat and scream at scary fuzzballs all the time. Super embarrassing.
Locked myself in a garage--with the door right outside, running, with my purse and house keys inside.
Oh gees, I could go on for days about this. I was reading your post thinking, yup done that, that too, and that. To be honest, since I bought a commercial database, Byron, the duplicate books have really gone down. Not stopped but dramatically reduced.
I have driven half way to work and been so convinced I left my curling iron turned on that I've turned back around. Now I won't buy one that doesn't shut off.
I buy nonfat yougurt and nonfat vanilla ice cream. I keep intending to make smoothies but forget until the stuff is expired.
I tape a couple of shows during the day. To remember to change the DVD, I diligently set out the new DVD. That helps me get the DVD in the recorder. Doesn't help me rememver to push the timer button.
I've gone to the store and left without the one thing I went there for.
You really aren't helping me feel any better about myself!!
LOL. If I start spilling all the absentminded things I do we'll be here for hours :)
LOL! I've done a few of those ;)
I have this Diana Cosby book actually, but I wish the all those who enter the best of luck!!
So do you just want stuff that I have done in the last couple of days, or are you after longer term stories?
Just this morning I was meaning to stop to get money out of the cash machine as I walk past one every day and I needed some money to buy breakfast. Got to the shop, and realised that I was so busy thinking about what I was going to cook for dinner on Sunday that I had forgotten to get money out!
How about yesterday when I was so busy contemplating nothing that I forgot to do the lid on my water bottle up properly, took a swig and ended up with water all over me. Fortunately none of my work mates noticed otherwise I would have had to wear the dunce hat all day!
Then there are the mornings that I wet my hair but forget to actually shampoo and wonder why I have a bad hair day.
Azteclady's story reminds me of the day I managed to lock my keys in between the security door and the front door! Whoops!
When you write a list like this it makes me sound far more vague than I really am. Really. Now, what was I doing.
Heh, Kristie---been there done that. LOL
1. I often go out with my shirts on inside out to the total amusement of the DH.
2. I have the shadow out of the corner of the eye thing, but it always turns out to be the rim of my glasses.
3. Unlike you, I've forgotten my purse altogether when not even in a rush. Just totally spaced out bringing it.
4. Left water for tea on the stove until the pot burned. Happens often because I get on my computer while waiting for water to boil and space it out.
5. I've totally spaced out getting ready for work and been amazed that I still have a lot of time before I have to leave. Then I look at the clock and see that I'm already an hour late. WTH? I can never figure out how that happens.
Don't worry...you're perfectly normal. I hope. LOL
Oh boy...I recognize myself in a few spots here, LOL. I have a reputation at home for NEVER getting it right when I try to tape a program (usually a dirtbike race). Either forget to rewind the tape or get tricked by the time change (no idea why the machine can't pick that up automatically), or the wrong day, and so on. Yet mysteriously, no one else in my house has taken it upon themselves to learn how to use the VCR. Mmmm. What else? The coffee maker, yep. At least once or twice a week, when I'm filling it and programming it to start in the morning, I hit the brew button instead of the timer button. Then, go sit down and 15 minutes later wonder why I can smell fresh-brewed coffee. At 10:00 at night. Think all this comes from being busy women?
Man...I could go on all day about this. I've done a lot of what the others have already mentioned...but there was the time I locked myself out of the house with my little boy inside. He just sat there and laughed and laughed, then got up to go watch tv without unlocking the door.
Put clothes in the dryer and forgot to turn the dryer on. Putting away groceries, thinking about other things and putting non-refrigerated items in refrigerator or the other way around.
It's nice to know there are others out there like me - LOL.
I have plenty of my own, but my favorite story is the time my husband put away the groceries and I couldn't find the chicken. It turned up... later... in a drawer.
For years, I had that story as domestic ammo. Anytime I did anything remotely stupid, I could yell, "Well, YOU put the chicken in the drawer!" -- willaful
This is an oopsie-OUCH! I lowered the oven door, turned to talk to someone, stepped back, and fell right over the oven door. I tried to catch myself, tore arm ligaments, and dislocated my elbow. Just from getting knocked off my feet by the oven door!
I've totally been a victim of a few of those. Especially with leaving the sliding glass door open or unlocked.
I was going to see a new doctor at a place I hadn't been to before and I took the bus, the problem was i boarded the bus that was going in the wrong direction and I didn't realize untill the driver got to the last stop. D'oh!
Hi Kristie!
Okay, you're talking to the queen of absent mindness.
Once, I locked the kids in the car, but not me. Had to call a locksmith.
I started the dishwasher and forgot to turn of the water, everything was good and baked on to the dishes, digusting.
I opened the car door while it was running and went into the house, I forgot the auto lock was engaged, had to call the locksmith (he has now given me a prefer customer discount card)
Put the dog outside, forgot that I did it, came back and dog's mad sitting by the front door, it was pouring.
Drove to Springfield to see my parents, locked the keys in the car, had to call a locksmith, he won't take the discount card that the locksmith at home had given me.
I have a thing about keys and cars, I have a spare set which I keep with me all the time, always right in my purse, unfortunately, my purse is always in the car.
Dottie :) (I'm really not that big of an airhead, I promise - although the locksmith seems to think so)
Dottie: LOL on locking your keys in the car. I've done it too - but you have me beat *g*
Marie: Ah yes - getting on the wrong bus - done that one too. I'm thinking you probably were late for your appointment.
VFG: And *laughing* that's one reason I never wanted glass doors. I'd be running into them for sure.
Cheri: OUCH!! Sound like that oven door must have really been out to get you!!
Willaful: I've heard of chicken in a basket *chuckle* but chicken in a drawer is something else! I hope it hadn't started to go bad because oooh that would have been nasty. And isn't it always good to have something to hold over their heads?
Kara: It is comforting isn't it? At times I think I'm losing my mind but if I'm not the only one....
Jennifer: Yep - good reason. We have so much we have to do in a day for so many people, sometimes we get a wee bit mixed up. That works.
Leah: *sigh* I've burned a few pots in my day that way too. And I'm thankful that newer appliances have an automatic shut off. Very, very thankful.
Marg: LOL on the waterbottle. One always hopes no one is watching when we do things like that doesn't one?
Barbara: It was on your blog that I saw your review of the second book and bought one - and then figuring I had to have the first one.........
Kytaira: :-) But does it help to know that you aren't alone? Ron used to get so ticked at me because I'd leave the iron on. I could never really figure out why though 'cause it had an automatic shut off *g*
JenB - was it this one you ordered or her second book?
AL: Ahhhhh - cars and keys can be such a hazard can't they?
Orannia: I hear you. That's just the tip of the iceberg for me too. If I thought about it longer I could have come up with a much longer list.
What a relief to find all this welcome company. I don't have to mention the red light ticket again where I'm clueless as I drive through it?
JenB said...
I ordered this one. It should be here by tomorrow. I'm looking forward to reading it. :)
Hi Kristie!
Yeah, me and the locksmith are now on a first day basis. I always feel so stupid....especially the time I did it at a restaurant and had to have the locksmith come there.
I'm not good with keys...or cars...well mechanical things in general...lol...I try to be friends, but they don't always like me back.
Dottie :)
Where to start? In the last couple of days I've:
Done that thing where you take off your glasses, can't remember where you put them and can't see well enough to find them---three times.
Forgot that I entered the Metro station via a different entrance than normal, was thrilled to see the train on "my" side of the tracks and then took 2 stations to realize that I was going in the wrong direction.
Realized that I never did get around to responding to that email from PayPal and as a result my account was on hold when I needed to buy something on ebay.
MB (Leah) - I had to get a whistling tea kettle for just that reason! my hubby was so sick of all the burned post (I make tea almost every night). Now it whistles, and he says - "you making tea?" Oh yeah....
Kristie (J) said...
Rosie: It IS a relief isn't it? I thought it was my aging brain cells that were doing it.
JenB: Darn - well I have a number of duplicate books so hopefully next one you won't have.
Dottie: ROTFL - you even had him come to a restaurant?
VFG: LOL - a chicken award!! I love it *g*
LoriK: Oh yes - glasses!!! I'm constantly losing mine!! I have 2 pair that seen to have disappeared somewhere and darned if I can find then anywhere!!
CindyW: Forgetting to send things back - yep that's a big one with me too.
Lori: Those reminder appliances are handy aren't they?
Hi Kristie!
How else was I going to get home?
I had both sets of keys with me, one in the ignition and the other sitting patiently in my purse, inside the car!
Thought I would never hear the end of that one.
Dottie :)
