A Rant

I can't say I really understand all of what is going on and what we hear on the news everyday. And I can't claim any kind of superiority of our own politicians here in Canada. We have the 4 or 5 federal elections in something like eight years to prove Canadian politicians are idiots, but what the hell is going on with our neighbours to the south???

I think you need a groundswell movement or something to toss ALL those politicians out on their ears. I can not, for the life of me understand why they are playing 'politics' when things are so damn serious. For Pete's sake forget all about Republicans and Democrats and think of what is best for the country and it's people instead your particular party!!

Are they really ready to see this country with such a glorious birth, go bankrupt for gawd's sake, because the person sitting across from you comes from a different political party. I am sure the men who founded the United States would weep in despair over what is happening now.

It's confusing as hell, but as a neighbor with many friends living in the US, I am appalled that partisan agendas are putting an already crippled nation further into, well trouble doesn't begin to cover it.

I want to scream stop it, just STOP IT!!!!!!!!

The answer is that the winners, ie currently the Democrats, can't afford to upset Rupert Murdoch. They will do as he asks.
But Britain has finally been shamed into doing something, and pretty soon the USA will follow suit.
Watch the upcoming Parliamentary Committee, which is getting the first shot at the two Murdochs and their patsy, Rebekah Brooks.
It's what you get when you allow someone so much power over the media. You get people doing totally abhorrent things and thinking it's okay.

Oh boy, do I agree with your "Rant." They are ALL idiots.

Well, IMO, they're simply too young, in both years and experience, like gung-ho frat boys. We can only hope and wait for 2012 to teach them humility.

I second Lori. THIS.

Amen!

I suspect that, in addition to partisan politics, there may also be an element of racism in this nonsence as well - some folks would do anything to ensure that Obama fails simply because he is a black man - it's all just very sad and stupid.

Unfortunately these clowns will take our Canadian economy and the rest of the world economy down with them.

I agree with you, KristeJ. I think you have a better "handle" on American politics than most Americans, unfortunately.

And I definitely agree with Lynnd! Sad, but true.

What Lynne Connolly said. The 24-hour news cycle and a Supreme Court decision that allows corporations even more political sway than they already had, is ruining the United States. All I can do is vote intelligently, sign-on line petitions that call out greed or support the common good, and read romance novels to keep my sanity.

If all else fails, can I live in your basement?

LynnD: Sadly, very sadly I think you are right - there is some racism in this whole situation. I heard one sound bite from a Republican that as long as this particular person was in office, nothing would get done and they would never agree.

I don't care if it's Republican or Democrat - I'm furious with them all. And yes, their absolute stupidity and failure to compromise will take the world down in flames with them if things don't get fixed/

Great post, Kristie. I don't get it all either, but true that, it makes no sense!

I think also, it's the way the US government is built... with senators and so on. Anyway...

Well we here had our own problems for many a year with the minority governments. Liberal, NDP or PC, it is nice to know that at least we are set for a while and things can get done. But Canada doesn't have nearly the world impact that the US does and I find it almost unbelievable that the politicians would rather pump their party than care about the country and indeed the entire globe. It's pathetic.

A-fucking-men. It's been driving me crazy for weeks, and as somebody pointed out, the debt ceiling was raised seven times during Bush's time in office. These people have totally forgotten who they're working for. Makes me crazy as hell.

Karen - exactly!! I didn't want to point fingers - but what the hell. I blame those stupid and (what I feel about many) racist republicans who seem to have forgotten that it's a democrat who is president. I'm not exempting him from some of the responsibility, but today I'm hearing both parties now have their own plan. Ah, last time I looked it was a democrat in power so why the hell is the republican party coming up with a plan????

Meanwhile, they are ALL going to take the ship that is the US down and it's scary as hell how many countries are going to get caught up in their backwash.

And WHY????????? Because they don't give a damn about anything or anyone except their own selfish interests.
