Dear Kristie,
A million thanks! I also loved this song--I was a child in 1959.
A few weeks ago, I was singing it as we watched a History Channel program about the War of 1812.
Once I began to read Regency novels, with so much history about the Napoleonic wars, I learn that the peace treaty was signed before the Battle of New Orleans, but, of course, no one in America knew about that in time to avoid the conflict. Then the British who survived New Orleans arrived back in Europe just in time to fight at Waterloo. So sad.
